eleanor: week four

weight
7lbs 14oz at yesterdays check up. they had wanted us to come in between her 2 week and 6 week appointment since she technically wasnt gaining the "half ounce to ounce per day" they like to see, but going from 7lbs 4oz to 7lbs 14oz in 14 days does mean she now is. so yay eleanor! (and yay mommy boobs!) her breastfeeding journey is much different than henrys (we were supplementing a lot of formula by this point with henry) and as much as i am happy that i am able to do this for her, im thinking its likely time to start introducing at least one bottle here and there with her. i have yet to do much pumping (they told me to wait 4 weeks), but when i have pumped (if she doesnt eat much) i am not getting anything, so i dont know how i will be able to store anything in time to go back to work and have enough saved up. i have been able to collect some let down/leakage from one side while she is eating on the other and have a few bags of about 2-3ounces in the freezer, but those wont last long.

health
the vit D drops are still unopen on my counter... oops. she still seems pretty healthy. and she definitely poops on the regular, takes after her brother for sure. (she fits in well in this house haha)

sleep
she is definitely staying awake more during the day (for longer periods of time), and still sleeping well at night. she wakes up before 4 hours to feed, likes to eat more often during the day (2.5 to 3 hours). when she is awake during the day she hates being put down, but what do you do with a newborn (who hates to just lay around when awake?) so we sit and watch tv and i stare at her or wear her and walk around (which she then falls asleep on me).

clothes
i have officially retired two pieces of clothes that she cant stretch out her long skinny chicken legs in anymore. its beginning already!! still wearing newborn and 0-3 onesies, the "newborn" clothes are the ones that are getting tight or too short. she also has been kicking off her socks, just like hen used to.

nicknames
Elle bug, Elsie, Ellies. Muffin is sticking pretty hard (henry was "monkey")
(i refuse to call her "ellie belly")

outings
last weekend eleanor made her first trip to skowhegan, and then came with me to spectate the mount desert island marathon in bar harbor! she was a great little passenger (made it to bangor before needing to eat at a rest stop) and basically slept the entire race. i took her out of the car seat and wore her for a bit so that she wasnt sitting in the car seat all day long (we left at 515am and didnt get home until about 515pm!). it was about 32 degrees when we left the house but warmed up to the low 50s. she was snuggled up in blankets and warm clothes and seemed perfectly content. she also gave me her first major blowout. lovely.

baby gear love
nothing new really... loving diapers and wipes at this point ;)

swing? nope. no thank you.

"the 5 S's"
swaddling- we gave up on this a long time ago. she does like to be bundled up in blankets, just not swaddled in them. side lying- she does enjoy lying on her side, definitely more so than her back (she will not fall asleep directly laying on her back and hates laying on the floor on her back). shushing- actually is working now! kinda. sucking- still going strong breastfeeding, also using a pacifier (unlike henry)... which is kinda a catch 22 for us since it soothes her until she spits it out (which she does a LOT) and then she freaks because she wants it back. its super cute watching her try to get it back in her mouth herself (which she actually is able to do sometimes). swinging- still hates the swing seat.

crying
she continues to be gassy which brings on small bouts of screams and cries until the gas passes, but overall just cries if she is hungry or wants to be held.

milestones
gaining weight (yay!). working on her walking reflex (henry loves watching her and wants to help her do her "jumps"). she is more alert, tracks voices and faces. is being much more vocal.

postpartum/motherhood
overall i feel really good. despite having about 6 more weeks at home, im already feeling like its gone by too fast and im not ready to get back to work (but i do miss my work peeps!). its a bit overwhelming thinking about all of the things that will need to get done in the mornings before i leave (and i dont have a typical 9-5 job, so that makes it more difficult). i cant even imagine if/when i will run before work anymore just due to time and all that would need to be done. i dont know why im bothering to even worry about it yet but these are things im thinking about. im enjoying going out for short runs after tyler gets home from work, so maybe my early am runs wont even be a concern anymore.

if you dont take full advantage of doing things like this to your children
are you even a mother?

and some days i make grilled cheese with whatevers left #momlife

hows henry doing?
still being a super awesome big brother. he enjoys reading to her at night, helping put her to bed, and is always curious about her eating. he still wont change diapers though... we'll keep working on that haha

early morning bed buddies

how are duke and chips?
duke ended up having an extended staycation at grandma and papa's house this week due to some car troubles... he also wasnt pooping for a few days but that has seemed to fix itself now (where he lacked in that department henry and eleanor surely made up for it here!). chips is actually acting quite odd lately... sleeping in weird places (she used to sleep with me on the bed, now she is on different stairs, in a box under the stairs that holds winter hats, on the kitchen rug...). she also wants to be on someones lap non stop, which isnt really like her. i think she is just feeling left out maybe.

hows daddy doing?
he says he is in disbelief that its been 4 weeks already (i think we all feel that way)

eleanor: week three

weight
not sure, will go back to the doctor next week to get weighed. she definitely looks bigger than when she was born though so i think thats a good sign (highly technical here)

are you calling me fat?

health
nothing new, still good. henry has had a cold but has been great about keeping his hands clean, covering his mouth when he coughs (except when hes laying next to me and enjoys coughing directly into my mouth. thanks kid!) ty and i both felt like we were coming down with something last week but that seemed to pass, and luckily eleanor seems to be doing ok without any sniffles. she sneezes  randomlyhere and there (multiple times at once like her brother and daddy) but that doesnt seem to be associated with any sort of cold or anything.

sleep
she is starting to be more awake for longer periods during the day and is sleeping well at night. i wake her up to feed after 3.5 hours (longest stretch so far).

clothes
the newborn specific clothes we have are starting to get a bit snug, 0-3 onesies and pants still fit slightly big but better than last week, and 0-3 sweatshirts or long sleeves are huge but were wearing them because its been cold.

my head is getting bigger and my bows are starting to fit. almost.

nicknames
basically the same... E, Elle, Ellie, Smelly, Muffin

outings
two trips to the dentist (one for henry one for me), out to lunch, henrys ortho appt, target (duh), hannaford... as much as i love home days where we dont go anywhere, she is a great traveler and doesnt seem to mind being out and about as long as i feed her when she wakes up

baby gear love
im continuing to try to get her to sleep in the bassinet... if she falls asleep on me after eating and i put her in it, she will sleep for about a half hour before realizing she is in it and remembers she hates it and starts screaming. if i put her in it when she is awake she just moves around and stays awake. im not giving up yet, i will (maybe) win this battle at some point! so needless to say our biggest baby gear love is still the rock n' play.

"the 5 S's"
swaddling- not even trying anymore. side lying- she lays on her side when shes laying on someone. shushing- actually working a little better now, especially when coupled with rocking. sucking- still going strong with breastfeeding. swinging- doesnt like the small swing we have yet.

crying
shes had some pretty bad gas which makes her scream bloody murder for about 3 seconds until it passes (im not sure if its something i am eating or just baby gas issues, ive been limiting my dairy again like i had to do with henry). other than that she really just cries when im not quick enough to get her started eating.

milestones
her head is getting stronger and she is enjoying tummy time more. like i said before she is awake more often during the day and very curious. she definitely focuses more on our faces and voices. we may transition to size 1 diapers soon (is that considered a milestone? lets just get her potty trained!)

yay for boobies!

postpartum/motherhood
overall i am really feeling great. i could use more naps but dont feel too tired. i started running very slowly, 1 mile at a time, and doing some light weights and core work. oof, its been a while and that is very apparent. luckily i dont have a marathon to train for any time soon (but i did sign up for a 5k in november)

hows henry doing?
still such an awesome, proud brother. loves reading to eleanor, checking to see how she is doing, and wanting to help however he can. he has been a bit more needy, finding it hard for him to occupy himself but understands when he needs to if we are busy with her. he also got approval to have his cast off, only needs to wear it for recess and gym at school for two more weeks. fingers crossed for no more breaks!

6am bedroom buddies

how are duke and chips?
same old same old. both are a bit needy but thats normal for them. were a busy household now thats for sure.

hows daddy doing?
ty went moose hunting this week, jason got a permit this year (ty can be eligible again next year). they scouted over the weekend and saw quite a few big ones, and jason & brayden shot one within the first hour on monday morning so they are all happy about that (we got about 40lbs of meat out of it! the moose itself weighed close to 600lbs and 6 people split all the meat). ty was pretty psyched about all of that, but says he is glad to be home (and we are too!)

the result of late night breastfeeding. oops.

oh haaaaay

did i make that stink?

cuddling with dad

early morning shenanigans

eleanor: week two

only a day late... not so bad!

weight
i dont remember exactly what she weighed when we brought her home (she was down 4% of her 6lbs 15oz birth weight, someone else do the math). at her 1 week check up she weighed 7lbs 1oz, and at todays check up she was 7lbs 3.8oz. keep up the good work, kid!

health
so far so good. a pharmacy student came in while we were in the hospital and gave me info about giving babies vitamin D drops to help support brain development and prevent rickets... apparently thats still a thing?! i remember giving it to henry when he was born (supposed to be every day for a year or something... i think we did it approximately every other day (when/if i would remember) and then it sat in the fridge and certainly wasnt given for a year (if a month). the one the pharmacy girl gave me (wanted $5 for it but the credit card machine wasnt working so she just gave it to me) was going to be 1mL every day (they dont have the concentrated dose kind yet... i remember henrys doctor recommending it but his was one drop that i could just put in his bottle or on my nipple). she said sometimes they spit it up or think its too sweet and you have to be careful giving it too fast and gave me all these directions on how to administer it blah blah blah... so anyway, i took the box and didnt think about it any more until we got home. i started doing some research and ended up looking at the ingredients on the box- pretty sure my newborn doesnt need citric acid, caramel, or artificial cherry flavoring (among the rest of the other 9 ingredients in the "natural vitamin D supplement"). so i went to the natural foods store and bought the actual vitamin D drops (1 ingredient... vitamin D!) and long story short, i still have yet to give it to her. $15 well spent im sure.

looks healthy to me! #chins

sleep
the majority of the pics we have of her so far show she tends to be asleep more than shes awake. we had one rough night early on, but overall she is a good sleeper, about 2.5 to 3.5 hour stretches throughout the night. she still wants nothing to do with the bassinet or laying flat on any surface, she would much rather be propped slightly upright and loves sleeping in the rock & play. although it states good for sleeping (if you google "rock & play" it comes up with "rock & play sleeper"...), a lot of blogs and reviews say it isnt good for them to sleep all night in it. first of all, she doesnt sleep all night. second of all, judge away. its what works for us (and her) to get any sleep at all, and her head will not be flat and shes still perfect and ill do what i want regardless of what other people say. shes mine, not yours.

clothes
the "newborn" onesies and feet pajamas are looking slightly snug, but she still swims in the 0-3 month clothes (ironic- in henrys two week update i wrote the very same thing. i apparently make little tiny peanuts hehe). shes still wearing newborn diapers (i am not a fan of the "seventh generation" diapers, prefer pampers. ill start cloth diapers in a couple of pounds). we are constantly finding one sock missing from her feet and she also wont keep them on her hands (the mittens are useless and wont stay on so we have been putting socks on her hands so she wont scar up her face... those find their way off as well. we do have some clothes that has little hand pockets which has worked well).

this is how i feel about not being able to use my hands guys

meg bought me some new hats!

nicknames
we have all the nicknames for her! im sure this is normal (at least thats what im telling myself)-
little miss thang, E, Elle, Ellie (im not sure what we will actually end up calling her. im sure something will stick), stinky (she certainly lives up to this one), muffin, ive called her henry once (ok maybe a few times), froggy/frogger (she has these long skinny legs that are constantly stretching out and recoiling, making putting pants on terribly difficult... and makes her look kinda like a frog)

outings
we've had tons of doctors appointments between her and henry (and duke!) so since we have been out and about anyway, might as well stop at target (a few times), hannaford and dunkin donuts, right? we also went to see a few friends at the maine marathon expo and met little EJ! he isnt so little anymore though.

baby gear love
the rock and play is the only thing she will sleep in, so im thankful to have that. ive carried her in the ergo and baby bjorn carrier a few times (good for bringing her to the bus stop with henry, and for reference- i like the baby bjorn carrier much better. its less bulky and much easier to get on/i feel more comfortable wearing it. E doesnt appear to have a preference either way at this point). i feel like the pack and play (where we change her when we are downstairs) needs to be a little higher, it hurts my back to bend over (i dont remember it being this way when we used it for henry... and i cant imagine it feels any better for tyler who is much taller than me). one of tylers co workers gave us a diaper dekor- so many blogs say the diaper pails are a waste but omg i love it! i wish we had this for henry. super easy to use and does not stink at all (and holds so many diapers!). we will be able to use it when we transition to cloth as well, which will be helpful. i also didnt realize until the week before she came and i was getting things ready that the attachment for the car seat i had for my bob stroller wasnt going to work with our new car seat. apparently it is an attachment for car seats "pre 2016" (link is for the newer version). as much as i love the bob, i wont be running with her in it until she can sit in the regular part of it anyway, and i found a universal stroller to attach the car seat to at a consignment shop for $18 vs the $60 a new bob attachment was going to cost me. so im happy about that.

the 5 S's
swaddling- just like her brother she hates it and busts her arms out. im not good at it anyway so we just gave up. i have a few of the swaddle blankets that attach with velcro and help swaddle her but allow her feet to stretch out which is a little better. side lying- she does this sometimes after nursing but mostly she lays on her back. shushing- do people really think this works? not for her. swinging- we dont have a swing. well actually we kinda have some sort of swing thing that my neighbor gave me but i havent tried it yet. maybe ill do that soon. sucking- on everything. yes.

crying
E is a super chill baby and really only cries if shes super unhappy, which isnt often. mostly when im not fast enough in getting my boob to her face. life is full of disappointments, kid. learn it early (but i wont make you wait long, i promise)

milestones
hmmm what milestones does a 2 week old have? she gained some weight and her head circumference grew. she certainly poops a lot. her head is very strong and she shows it off all the time. she wasnt all too impressed with tummy time but we will keep working on it.

postpartum/motherhood (again)
its amazing, once again. there are a lot of things that i remember from last time (random crying, running on empty, so.much.laundry!) but there are quite a few that i forgot as well (super sad nipples, how much cluster feeding sucks (repeat, sad nipples), fancy mesh underwear that gave me a sweet rash along the waistband, week upon week of a period without use of a tampon is totally sweet... hello 6th grade! also, barf. this whole baby thing is truly glamorous, dont you think?). i definitely feel like my anxiety this time around is much better/less and im more or less just going with the flow (and trying to find a way to slow down time!).

hows henry doing?
were all still adjusting but he is really great with all of the change and appears to still think the world of Eleanor. hes a bit needy but hes also still 5 years old. wants our attention and we try hard to give it to him and not push him aside (just writing that sounds awful but things are infinitely busier and more difficult to give him the specific one on one time he got before she arrived). he loves school and came home with an award from their school assembly last friday for "excellent reading". he was very proud of it, as are we (i just wish someone would have told me about it so i could have gone and see him receive the award!)

practicing on his doll to help feed E

how are duke and chips?
adding to the multitude of medical bills we will have from the month, duke went to the vet this week and has conjunctivitis and double ear infections. this dog i tell ya!! always something. hes great around E though, doesnt seem to care much as long as we feed and water him and let him out (multiple times a day... always on the wrong side of the door for sure). and chips is seeming a bit jealous and wants some mommy time, always coming up and sitting on my lap when im breastfeeding as well as when i dont have E with me and am sitting somewhere.

always up to no good

hows daddy doing?
"great" he says. so descriptive. (hes certainly getting more sleep than mommy, but is very helpful with everything and i could not imagine doing any of this without him!) and it is quite apparent that this little girl is already wrapped around her daddys finger.

random 2nd week pics (hard to choose out of the hundreds ive taken haha)

on henrys 2nd week blog i shared this video/commercial that meg had sent to me at the time (which of course made me cry, how could it not! and still does...)

this time around my brother had a video for me to watch. all. the. tears! you cant keep doing this to me you guys! (my hormones also cant take the new show "million little things"!)
